We had intended to just do a bit of tidying, but as often happens with refurbs, it got a bit out of hand ! But the result is a modernised, cosy, well insulated cottage
Our builder (Kev) is a close friend and it’s not the first time he’s done work for us. We decided to knock the non load bearing walls out, level the floor as it was 3 different heights and make the 2 bedrooms into 1 (opening up the ceiling along the way)
We also needed to replace the existing wooden add on room with something better looking and rehouse the kitchen from the main house into this new room.
Outside we needed to find a place for the Shepherd hut we’d purchased and decided to put it down the garden (There was an existing wooden studio there that wasn't in good condition).
We had to take out scrub bushes to put an access route for the hut too. We had a nice area with concrete platform built for the 4 tonne hut, clad the area with sleepers and ..then .. we changed our mind and decided to put the hut at the top !!
Never mind we had accidentally created a lovely patio .. since it took so much effort (and cost) we named it “The golden patio”
We had the access road and rest of the area turfed (Thank goodness it rained for a week after !!) and had nice steps built down to the patio.
We completed the project mid August 2022 ..
Mari had sketched out what the kitchen add on should look like and the end result is very close to the vision.
The end result .. a well insulated, well balanced old vs new building with an adjacent shepherd hut .. We love it.
